米原市の清滝山で、お盆の時期に山の中腹の松明に火が灯される伝統行事です。2026年は8月15日の16時30分頃からの点火が予定されています。麓の集落からは、夕暮れに浮かび上がる炎の姿がはっきりと望め、先祖の霊を送る送り火としての意味合いを持つとされています。近江の里山に古くから伝わる、静かで趣深い夏の締めくくりの行事です。

Tips

山の中腹での点火のため、麓の見晴らしのよい場所から鑑賞するのが基本です。周辺は道幅が狭いところもあるため、駐車場所には十分注意しましょう。日没後は足元が暗くなるため、懐中電灯があると安心です。

About 10 minutes by car from Samegai. If attempting catch-your-own, wear clothes that can get wet. Keep in mind the travel time to Mount Kiyotaki and wrap up before 4 PM.
