About this spot

A central Akita park developed from the ruins of Kubota Castle, former seat of the Satake clan, daimyo of the Akita Domain. This is a rare castle site without a main tower; you can glimpse the era through restored corner towers and gates. The park's abundant trees make it pleasant to stroll even in summer. Located near downtown but surrounded by lush greenery, it's a fitting start to a day experiencing Akita's history before the Tanabata Festival.

Tips

There are stairs to the corner tower, so wear comfortable shoes. The park is large; hydrate frequently. Easily accessible on foot from Akita Station.

Best time to visit

Allow about 1 hour. Morning is the coolest time for exploring.
