This museum, facing Tanabata Street, showcases the Akita Tanabata Festival's history and techniques. Actual lantern poles used in the festival are on display, letting you experience their size and weight firsthand. Some days offer mini experiences where you can try lifting and handling a pole, perfect for previewing the skill tomorrow's carriers will demonstrate. The museum also features exhibits on other Akita folk arts, offering a broad view of local traditions.

2026年の秋田竿燈まつりは8月3日(月)から6日(木)まで、秋田市の竿燈大通りを中心に開催されます。夜の本番前の9時から15時40分までは「昼竿燈」として、竿燈の技を間近で自由に見学できる時間帯が設けられており、稲穂に見立てた提灯を連ねた竿燈を、担ぎ手が額や肩、腰に乗せて操る妙技をじっくり観察できます。夜には18時50分から21時まで、提灯に灯がともった本番の演技も行われ、昼と夜でまったく異なる表情を見せるのがこの祭りの魅力です。1日を通して秋田の歴史と文化にふれてきたコースの締めくくりに、伝統の技をたっぷりと味わいましょう。

Tips

見学は自由な時間帯に立ち寄れますが、演技が集中する時間帯は混み合います。屋台は中央会場や市役所前の市民の広場などに出店しますので、あわせて立ち寄るのもおすすめです。日中は日差しが強いので、帽子と飲み物を忘れずに。
