About this spot

This adjustment pond retains part of Lake Hachirogata, which once ranked as Japan's second-largest lake after Lake Biwa. While most of the original lake has been reclaimed as farmland for Ōgata Village, this pond preserves a vast water surface that evokes the memory of pre-reclamation Hachirogata. With minimal obstructions to views, the expansive sky and serene water surface create an unforgettable landscape that allows you to directly experience the historical transformation of Hachirogata Town.

Tips

Parking spaces may be limited at some viewing points, so check ahead for accessible locations. In summer, there's little shade, so bring a hat and drinking water.

Best time to visit

Approximately 40 minutes. Late afternoon offers changing sky colors that beautifully reflect on the water surface.
