"Kohari Matsushita-ryu Tsunagi-bi" held at Kohari Atago Shrine in Kohari, Tsukubamirai City, starting at 19:00 on Monday, August 24, 2026. Designated as an important intangible folk cultural property, this Tsunagi-bi is a traditional art form since the Edo period where fireworks propel figurines and devices slowly along ropes strung between trees in the shrine grounds. The quiet atmosphere of Yawara Comprehensive Sports Park and Fukuoka Dam Sakura Park visited during the day gives way at night to a shrine crowded with families gazing up at this fantastical fire art. Since food stalls vary by year, having dinner at Michi no Eki Joso beforehand ensures peace of mind.

Parking space around the shrine is limited on festival day, so early arrival is safer. As this is a traditional art using fire, follow staff instructions and view from designated areas. Insects are often numerous at night, so don't forget insect repellent measures.

Best time to visit

From 19:00 start. Watching Tsunagi-bi in complete darkness after sunset is most fantastical.
