A red-brick church standing in the center of Sasebo City, and one of the most symbolic buildings of the city. The imposing Gothic-inspired exterior stands out prominently among the modern cityscape near the station. It remains an important center of Catholic faith and continues to be cherished by local residents, where you can often see people quietly offering prayers. You can also enjoy views of the city from in front of the church.

Tips

Located within walking distance of JR Sasebo Station. Since the church is also a place of worship, it's best to check in advance what times allow for interior viewing and what dress codes apply. The exterior alone is well worth seeing.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 45 minutes. The soft afternoon light beautifully illuminates the red-brick building.
