This magnificent equestrian statue stands in front of Ueda Station at the Castle Exit, depicting Sanada Yukimura (Nobushige). The statue commemorates Yukimura, known as 'the greatest warrior in Japan' for his fierce resistance against the Tokugawa forces in the Siege of Osaka. It's a popular photo spot for tourists visiting Ueda. It's the perfect place to capture a photo that captures the spirit of Ueda, a land of the Sanada clan, before heading to Umino-cho Shopping Street for the festival.

上田市中心部の海野町商店街を舞台に開かれる「信州上田七夕まつり」です。2026年は8月8日(土)・9日(日)の2日間にわたって開催され、初日は11時から21時30分まで、歩行者天国となった商店街の頭上に大小さまざまな七夕飾りが揺れます。地域の店舗や団体が趣向を凝らして飾り付けた七夕飾りが商店街を彩り、日中は買い物や散策、夜は提灯の灯りとともに情緒あふれる雰囲気に変わっていきます。このコースでは、朝のうちに上田城跡や城下町を巡ったあと、まつり開始とともに1日を通して七夕飾りの下で過ごす構成にしています。
Tips
歩行者天国の時間帯は車両の乗り入れができません。日中は日差しが強いため、こまめな休憩と水分補給を心がけましょう。夜は気温が下がることがあるので、薄手の羽織ものがあると安心です。
Tips
It's within walking distance of Yanagi-cho and just a short walk to Umino-cho Shopping Street. The area in front of the station is crowded, so be considerate of others when taking photos.
Best time to visit
Duration: approximately 15 minutes. It's ideal to stop here on the way to the festival venue.
