Iiyama Castle Ruins Park (飯山城址公園)
Flow of the course
About this spot
This park was developed on the ruins of Iiyama Castle, built on a hilltop overlooking the Chikuma River, and remnants from the Sengoku through Edo periods, such as stone walls and earthen ramparts, still remain today. Also known as a spot for cherry blossoms, the grounds are lush and shaded even in summer, making it well-suited for strolling. From the hilltop you can enjoy views of Iiyama's castle town and the mountains stretching into the distance, giving a perfect overview of the town you're about to explore.
Tips
Accessible by bus or on foot from JR Iiyama Station. Since parts of the grounds have some elevation change, wear comfortable, walkable shoes.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. Early afternoon tends to be relatively uncrowded, letting you enjoy the view at a relaxed pace.
