The highlands around Nawa Town are known as an obsidian production site from prehistoric to Jomon times, with historical records of people gathering here to collect stone tool materials. This museum displays both raw obsidian samples actually mined from this area and stone tools from that era, while also offering hands-on programs such as arrowhead-making using obsidian. It's a precious facility where you can learn about the lives of people from thousands of years ago through direct experience.

Tips

Accessible by car from the Nakasendo Wada Shuku post-town. Some hands-on programs may require advance reservations, so it's wise to check official information beforehand.
