About this spot

The 2026 Nishi Maone Bon Odori runs August 16-18 in Ugo town center. Recognized alongside Awa Odori and Gujo Odori as one of Japan's three great Bon Odori dances, and designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, this ancient dance has been passed down for nearly 700 years. Dancers with covered faces in woven hats and Hiko-san headwear move fluidly under bonfire light, displaying an ethereal beauty that sets this dance apart from others. After experiencing Ugo's attractions at the hall and roadside station during the day, conclude your 1-day journey by savoring this historically significant dance.
