See Shirahama's symbolic scenic islet with a round hole at its center
About this spot
Engetsuto Island (円月島) is a small island known as the symbol of Shirahama Onsen, and its official name is Takashima (高嶋). A large hole carved by wave erosion opens at the center of the island. It is famous as a sunset spot, but its appearance in the clear light of morning is beautiful in its own way. Since you simply take in the view from an observation area, it is an easy stop and a good way to walk off lunch before heading to the water obstacle park.
Tips
There is an observation parking area along the national highway, and the charm is that you can park and see the view right away. If you are taking photos, look for the angle where light streams through the hole.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. The view in the clear morning air is recommended
