About this spot
Hijiri Lake (聖湖) is a calm man-made lake cradled by the mountains of the Chugoku range. A walking path runs along the shore, so you can stroll at your leisure while looking out over the still water. The surroundings are wrapped in lush greenery, and at certain times of day you may meet the beautiful sight of the mountains reflected on the lake surface. It is just the right rest spot for settling your mind and savouring nature before the full-scale river play at Sandankyo Gorge.

三段峡は、柴木川が刻んだ全長約16kmにおよぶ大峡谷で、国の特別名勝にも指定されている広島県を代表する景勝地です。散策可能時間は7時30分から17時までと定められており、峡内には照明がないため時間内に下山する必要があります(一部区間は通行止め中の場合があるため事前確認がおすすめです)。澄み切った水と切り立つ岩壁が織りなす渓谷美の中で、浅瀬を選んで水遊びを楽しめるのが魅力です。中国山地の雄大な自然にたっぷりふれられる、1日のクライマックスにふさわしいスポットです。
Tips
渓谷内は足場が悪い箇所もあるため、すべりにくい川用シューズで訪れましょう。一部区間の通行止め状況や最新の安全情報は、訪問前に安芸太田町の公式情報で確認してください。17時までに下山できるよう、時間に余裕を持って行動しましょう。
Tips
Parts of the lakeside path are unpaved, so wear comfortable walking shoes. In summer, insect repellent spray makes the visit more pleasant. Keeping the stroll short while enjoying the view leaves more room in the rest of your schedule.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. A calm, windless morning is the easiest time to enjoy the lake scenery.
