River play in the clear Shibaki River until evening

About this spot

Sandankyo Gorge (三段峡) is a great ravine about 16 km long carved by the Shibaki River (柴木川), a leading scenic site of Hiroshima Prefecture designated a National Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Walking is permitted from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and since there is no lighting inside the gorge you must come down within those hours (some sections may be closed, so checking in advance is recommended). Amid the beauty of a ravine woven from crystal-clear water and sheer rock walls, the appeal is choosing a shallow spot and enjoying water play. It is a spot worthy of the climax of the day, where you can fully touch the majestic nature of the Chugoku Mountains.
