Around JR Ashiya Station you'll find restaurants and grocery stores, so you can take care of lunch and afternoon shopping in one stop. The area around Minami Ashiya Beach doesn't have many commercial facilities, so it's a good idea to stock up on drinks and snacks here. Taking a solid rest somewhere air-conditioned helps everyone enjoy the afternoon's water play with energy all the way through. Changing into swimwear at the restroom after lunch makes things go much more smoothly once you arrive. Minami Ashiya Beach is about 15 minutes away by bus or car.

Tips

Restaurants get crowded around noon on weekends, so having an early lunch around 11am lets you get seated without waiting. Packing drinks in an insulated bag makes staying hydrated in the afternoon more comfortable. There are city bus services to Minami Ashiya Beach from JR Ashiya Station, and if driving, heading for Ashiya City General Park, which has parking, is the easiest option. Facilities near the station have diaper-changing and nursing rooms, so it's reassuring even with a baby along.
