Minami-Ashiyahama Water Park (南芦屋浜ウォーターパーク) is a free water-play facility adjoining Ashiya Municipal Athletic Park. With fountains bursting from the walls and water cascading down like a waterfall, it is built for enjoying contact with water rather than swimming as in a pool. In 2026 it runs year-round from Thursday 1 January to Thursday 31 December, from 9:30 to 16:30. Being able to touch the water through every season, not just summer, is what makes this place unusual. Stone and tiled surfaces get very slippery when wet, so put children in non-slip water sandals and get them to promise not to run before they start. The facility may be shut down for inspections, so it is reassuring to check its operating status before you set out.

Tips

Admission is free, and you can play while moving back and forth with the adjacent Ashiya Municipal Athletic Park. Bringing one plastic bag per person for wet clothes and sandals makes the journey home much more comfortable. There is little shade by the sea, so reapply sunscreen frequently. It closes at 16:30, so getting into the water by 15:00 gives you a good stretch of play.
