The Odori Park Water Channel (大通公園 遊水路) is a free waterside spot in the heart of Sapporo where you can casually play in the water. In 2026, it's open from Monday, June 1 through Sunday, September 20, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. There's a shallow water channel and fountains near Nishi 2-chome and Nishi 9-chome, and since the water is shallow, even a child who has just learned to walk can dip their feet in and play. Surrounded by lawns and trees, it's also a distinctly city-center touch that adults can sit on a shaded bench nearby, watching over the kids at a relaxed pace. There are restrooms and a shop in the park, so you can pick up drinks and snacks on the spot. With a subway station right nearby, having a short trip home even after a tiring day of play is reassuring for families.

The opening can change due to weather, cleaning, and other factors, so check the day's status before heading out. You can change clothes in the park's restrooms, but they can get crowded at certain times, so moving early lets you get ready without rushing. To avoid slipping on the paving stones or curbs, it's reassuring to have kids wear water-play sandals. Closing time is 4:00pm, so starting to pack up around 3:30pm leaves plenty of time to head home.

Best time to visit

If you enter by 1:55pm, you get about 2 hours to play, right up until close to evening when the sunlight softens.
