The fountain water-play area at Nijigaoka Park is a free water-play spot in Kitahiroshima City. In most years the fountain plaza opens from around Saturday, June 20 to around Monday, September 7, which Kitahiroshima City's guidance gives as late June to early September. It is a fountain plaza where the water runs only through the summer, and being able to dash about under the vigorously rising spray is a charm quite different from a quiet wading pool. The park also has play equipment and a lawn plaza, so when children tire of the water they head for the equipment, and when they tire out they lie down on the grass; the play shifts naturally with their mood. It is free to use, so families can stay as long as they like without worrying about the time, which is a real pleasure.

Tips

Whether the fountain is running changes from year to year, so check this year's period in Kitahiroshima City's guidance before setting out. The stone paving around the fountain can be slippery, so having children wear water-play sandals gives peace of mind. Shade is mainly under the trees, so on days with strong sun a pop-up tent or a picnic sheet makes resting easier. The wind can pick up in the evening and chill you, so take one light layer along.
