Natsuzora Park Fountain water play area (なつぞら公園 噴水)

About this spot

The Natsuzora Park Fountain water play area (なつぞら公園 噴水) is a free water play spot in Natsuzora Park in Otofuke Town (音更町). The star is a fountain with five nozzles, and children quickly invent their own ways to play - ducking beneath the rising water or chasing the columns of spray. The usual season runs from Friday, May 1 to Wednesday, September 30, open from 9:00 to 18:00, and the Otofuke Town guide introduces it as "early May to late September." Since it is not a deep pool, even small children can play safely with a guardian watching. Michi-no-Eki Otofuke Natsuzora no Furusato (道の駅おとふけ なつぞらのふる里) is right next door, so restocking drinks and finding restrooms is never a problem - a real advantage for families. Spread a mat on the lawn and you can relax while watching the children play.

Tips

Whether the fountain is running depends on weather and temperature, so check the Otofuke Town guide for the day's status before you set out (source: https://www.town.otofuke.hokkaido.jp/kurashi/toshi/koen/mizuasobi.html). Changing space is limited, so a towel or poncho you can pull on over your clothes is handy. Tokachi (十勝) summer sun is strong and shaded spots fill up quickly, so claim a place under the trees early. Since it closes at 18:00, working backward to allow time for changing afterward gives you breathing room.

Best time to visit

Arriving after 13:00 gives you a full three hours through to the milder evening light
