Yanagi Park Water Play Pond

About this spot

The Yanagi Park Water Play Pond is a shallow water play area that appears only in summer at Yanagi Park in Shiroishi Ward, Sapporo. In 2026 it is open from Friday, July 10 to Monday, August 31, from 9:00 to 17:00, and admission is free. Because it stays open from morning until evening, you can use it just for the morning or just for the afternoon, whichever fits your family's plans. The water is shallow, so even children who have only just started walking can stand on their own feet and play, which is reassuring. There are no swap-over times or queues as at a pool, so you can keep your own rhythm: get in when you want to play, and rest in the shade when you are tired. It is a gathering place for local children, so you will often see youngsters start playing naturally with someone they have only just met.

Tips

It is open from 9:00 to 17:00, but this can change depending on the weather or cleaning work, so check the City of Sapporo's information for that day's status before you leave. There are no changing rooms, so wear swimsuits under your clothes or bring a wrap towel so you can change with peace of mind. Summer evenings in Sapporo turn cool as soon as the sun goes behind something, so always bring an extra layer to put on after getting out. Shade is limited, so a picnic sheet and a hat make breaks much easier.

Best time to visit

Getting in at 13:50 lets you play until the sun softens and enjoy a relaxed time right through to evening.
