Aoba Central Park Water Play Area

About this spot

Aoba Central Park Water Play Area is a shallow water playground that appears only in summer at Aoba Central Park (青葉中央公園) in Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo. In 2026 it is open from July 5 (Sun) to August 23 (Sun), 9:30-16:30, and admission is free. The water is shallow, so even children who have only just started walking can stand on their own feet and play, which is reassuring. There is no changeover or queueing as at a pool, so you can keep your own free rhythm: get in when you want to play, rest in the shade when you tire. Another good thing about this itinerary is that it lets you rest legs tired from walking around museums in the morning in the cool water. Since it is a spot where children from the neighbourhood gather, you will often see kids who met that very day start playing together.

Season & hours

Name: 青葉中央公園 水遊び場

Date & time: 7/5 (Sun)–8/23 (Sun) 9:30–16:30

Venue: 札幌市厚別区・青葉中央公園

Tips

It is open 9:30-16:30. Some days it closes due to bad weather, cleaning or water-quality management, so check the city of Sapporo's information for the day before you set out. There are no changing rooms, so wear swimwear underneath your clothes, or bring a wrap towel or similar so you can change. Summer evenings in Sapporo turn cool the moment the sun goes in, so always bring something to put on after getting out of the water. Shade is limited, so a picnic sheet and a hat make resting much easier.

Best time to visit

Getting in at 14:20 lets you play until the sun softens and enjoy it fully right up to the 16:30 closing time
