A hands-on science facility in Shin-Sapporo. Many exhibits are not only for looking at but can be operated yourself, so children understand how force travels and how light behaves with their bodies before they even read the explanation — which is exactly what delights them. True to Hokkaido, there are also exhibits about cold and snow that only this science center offers. There is a planetarium too, so if the timing works, watching one star show before heading outside is a fine way to spend the visit. The building is air-conditioned, which also makes it well suited to a morning when the sun is strong.

科学館公園水遊び場は、札幌市厚別区の科学館公園に夏だけ現れる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は7月1日(水)から8月31日(月)まで、9:30〜16:30に開放され、利用は無料です。札幌市青少年科学館とサンピアザ水族館に隣接しているので、屋内施設と水遊びを歩いて行き来できるのがこの公園ならではの強み。雨が降っても屋内に逃げられますし、子どもが水に飽きても次の行き先がすぐそこにあります。水深が浅いため、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って遊べるのも安心なところです。新さっぽろの駅前という便利な場所にありながら、こんなに気軽に水遊びができるのは厚別区の恵まれた点です。

Tips

開放は9:30〜16:30です。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになる日があるため、出発前に札幌市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。更衣室はないので、水着は下に着ていくか、ラップタオルなどで着替えられる用意をしておきましょう。札幌の夏は日が陰ると急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織る一枚が必要です。人通りの多い場所なので、荷物から目を離さないように気をつけてください。

Tips

Check the admission fee, opening hours, closed days and planetarium show times on the official information in advance. Popular exhibits can build a queue, so entering right after opening makes it easier to get around. If you are carrying a lot, check whether lockers are available so you can move freely. Science Center Park is right next door, so leaving your bags in the car before you enter makes the afternoon easier.
