The Makomanai Akebono Park Water Play Area, in Makomanai Akebono Park in Minami-ku, Sapporo, is a shallow water play spot that can be used free of charge. The 2026 season runs from Friday, July 10 to Tuesday, August 25, from 10:00 to 16:00. The water is shallow, so even small children who cannot swim yet can walk in on their own two feet. It has the friendly feel of a park in a residential neighborhood, and another virtue of the place is that children can naturally mix in and play with local kids. Because there are no clearing times, it simply accepts a child's own pace of playing, resting, then playing again. Admission is free, so a short afternoon-only visit is also an option.

Closing time is 16:00. Allowing time to change and pack up, plan to get out of the water around 15:45. Shade is limited at certain hours, so do not forget a hat and sunscreen. Children not yet out of diapers should wear swim diapers.
