Inside Sapporo Art Park in Minami-ku, this open-air museum turns the wide forest itself into an exhibition hall. As you walk the rolling paths, large sculptures appear in gaps between the trees and on grassy plazas, and children can wander freely around the works. Unlike viewing quietly inside a building, the charm of an open-air museum is that you can come close to the works while running about or looking up at them. There is plenty of shade, so walking stays relatively cool even in midsummer. The park has dining facilities, so you can eat lunch before heading to the next destination.

札幌市南区の石山緑地(南ブロック)にある「石山緑地スパイラルスプリング(水遊び)」は、無料で楽しめる水遊びスポットです。水遊びの時期は例年6月15日(月)ごろから8月31日(月)ごろまで、時間は10:00〜16:00で、札幌市の案内は「6月中旬〜8月下旬」としています。らせん状に水が流れる造りで水深が浅く、小さな子どもでも安心して足をひたせます。ここは札幌軟石の採石場跡を生かした公園で、切り立った石の壁や幾何学的な広場そのものが彫刻作品のような空間になっているのが最大の特徴です。ふつうのじゃぶじゃぶ池とはまったく違う景色のなかで水遊びができるため、写真に残したときの印象も格別です。料金は無料なので、夕方前に短く立ち寄る使い方もできます。

Tips

終了は16:00です。着替えと片づけを考えて15:45ごろには水から上がりましょう。石の面は濡れると滑りやすいので、水遊び用サンダルを履かせてください。天候や水温、清掃作業によって水が流れない日があるため、出かける前に札幌市の案内ページで当日の状況を確認してください。日陰が限られるので帽子と日焼け止めは必須です。
