This is a green space facing Tomakomai Port (苫小牧港), where large vessels move along the quay right in front of you. Tomakomai (苫小牧) grew as a city of industry and logistics, so this scenery is the very face of the place. For a child, simply watching a ferry many times larger than their own house move through the water is a big enough event on its own. Wind off the sea sweeps through, so the area near the quay stays cool even in summer, and as long as the sunlight is kind you can sit for a long while. If you happen to be there when a ship is arriving or departing, even the sound of the horn will stay in your memory.
Tips
There is little shelter from the sun, so be sure to bring a hat and drinks. Some stretches near the quay have gaps in the railing, so never take your eyes off small children. On windy days hats blow off easily, so one with a chin strap is safer. If you check the ferry company information for arrival and departure times in advance, you can time your visit to see a ship.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 20 minutes. The sea breeze is pleasant in the morning and the ships are easy to see
