About this spot

The remains of a large moated settlement, representative of the Yayoi period, have been developed into a spacious historical park. The landmark is a wooden tower reconstructed based on a drawing found on excavated pottery; it is much taller than you would expect, and children always stop to look up at it. The remains of the moat that once surrounded the village survive as part of the terrain, giving families a chance to talk about why the settlement needed to be encircled by a waterway. It is a wide, open grassy area with nothing in the way, making it a great spot for children at the age when they love to run around. There is a roadside station right next door, so you don't need to worry about rest stops or restrooms.

Tips

There is little shade, so a hat and something to drink are essential. In midsummer, it is safer to walk here briefly in the early morning rather than stay long. The grass gets muddy after rain, so shoes you don't mind getting dirty are reassuring. Using the parking lot at the adjacent roadside station keeps your walking distance short.

About 1 hour 5 minutes. Morning, when the sunlight is gentler, is recommended.
