Naoetsutsumi Park Brook

About this spot

Naoetsutsumi Park Brook is the free water-play area at Naoetsutsumi Park (the Naoe Stone Embankment) in Yonezawa City. It is a man-made stream running through the park, and because there are no deep spots even small children can play safely with an adult alongside. A slide, a sandpit and other play equipment are close by, so children can keep going at their own pace and switch to the playground when they tire of the water. Imoni stew and barbecues are also possible on the riverbank, making it a park well suited to gathering with family or friends for a long stay. Named after the Naoe Stone Embankment, said to have been built by Naoe Kanetsugu to hold back the flooding of the Mogami River, it lets you feel Yonezawa's history close at hand while you play — a charm unique to this park. The car park and toilets are also reassuring for families.

Tips

The opening period has not been announced. In past years the water has run during the summer holidays, but please check whether it is running before you set out. To avoid cutting your feet on the streambed, footwear with a sole such as water shoes is recommended. As it is a park close to a river, the volume of water can change after rain or when the river is high. If the weather turns, wrap up rather than pushing on. Children not yet out of diapers need swim diapers.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 40 minutes. The afternoon, when the sun softens, is best, and the water feels even cooler towards evening
