About this spot

This is the landscape that symbolizes Sakata: a row of rice storage warehouses built in the Meiji era. The zelkova avenue running behind the warehouses blocks the sunlight, so walking there feels cool even in midsummer. Part of the warehouses is used as the tourism and local products hall Sakata Yume no Kura, where you can have a meal made with Shonai (庄内) ingredients and shop for local sweets and crafts. Because you can eat inside a historic building, it becomes more than just a rest stop. Topping up on drinks and towels for the afternoon water play here gives you peace of mind.

Tips

It gets crowded at midday on weekends, so arriving before 12:00 lets you eat calmly. Please check business hours and closing days through the official information. The zelkova avenue is a famous photo spot, so take pictures where you will not block the path. Nakamachi Mall is a short drive away.
