Kofu Castle Ruins (甲府城跡)

About this spot

Just outside the south exit of Kofu Station, the former site of Kofu Castle has been laid out as Maizuru Castle Park. The nozurazumi rough-stone walls remain as they were and are impressive, and climbing the steps up to the keep base gives you a view over the Kofu Basin, the Southern Alps, and even Mount Fuji (富士山). Admission is free, and the Inari Turret (稲荷櫓), the Kurogane Gate (鉄門), and other structures have been reconstructed inside, so simply walking around with children gives you a castle-going feeling. In the cool hours of the morning, even the slopes are no trouble. Looking out over how the town of Kofu came to be at the start of the day makes the rest of the outing far more vivid.

山梨県立愛宕山こどもの国ライオンの池は、自由広場のいちばん高いところにある水深約20cmの浅い池で、歩き始めたばかりの子でも安心して水に入れます。開放は7月〜8月の土日祝、9:30〜16:30で利用は無料。2026年の具体的な開放日は未発表なので、出発前に公式サイトで確認してください。池のまわりには芝生広場が広がり、ふわふわドームで跳ねたり、土日祝に動く変形自転車広場でめずらしい自転車に乗ったりと、水から上がったあとの遊び場も豊富です。昔遊び体験エリアやキャンプ場もあり、丸一日いても飽きません。甲府市街から車ですぐの高台にあるので、涼しい風を感じながら夕方まで過ごせます。

Tips

料金は無料です。開放は7月〜8月の土日祝の9:30〜16:30で、2026年の具体的な開放日は未発表のため、公式サイト(https://atagoyama.yya.or.jp/park)で必ず事前確認を。池の底ですべらないようマリンシューズがあると安心です。水から上がったら芝生広場で体を乾かし、変形自転車広場は土日祝のみの運用なので開いていたら忘れずに立ち寄りましょう。16:30には終了するので、着替えの時間を見込んで16:00ごろには片づけ始めると余裕があります。

Tips

There is little shade, so a hat and drinks are essential. Steps continue up to the keep base, so leave a stroller at the bottom or bring a baby carrier for peace of mind. On the north exit side there is also the free Kofu City History Park (Yamanote Gate), which you can add to the walk if you have time.
