Futaba Waterside Park Splash Pond

The Futaba Waterside Park Splash Pond is the water-play area of a park spreading along the banks of the Kamanashi River (釜無川) in Kai City (甲斐市). The pond is shallow with no depth to speak of, so even children who have just started walking can go in safely with a guardian. In the park, Futaba-chan, a large Tyrannosaurus dinosaur play structure, towers above, and there are also spring riders, fitness equipment, a lawn plaza and an arbor, so there is no shortage of places to play once you come out of the water. There are three barbecue hearths, and with an advance application you can enjoy a meal cooked over a fire. Vending machines sell disposable diapers and baby wipes, making this a reassuring park even with a baby along. You can spend a carefree summer afternoon in the open scenery beside the river.

Tips

Use is free. The opening period of the splash pond has not been announced (it is usually the summer vacation period), so be sure to check the Kai City official page (https://www.city.kai.yamanashi.jp/page/4586.html) before you set out. The park itself can be used at any time. There is little to block the sun, so securing an arbor early or bringing a tent makes it more comfortable. An advance application is required to use the barbecue hearths. The riverbed is close by, so when the water is high or after rain, do not push on and decide to turn back.

Best time to visit

Arrive at 13:20 and you can play at a relaxed pace all afternoon until the sun goes down
