Okayama City Handayama Botanical Garden (岡山市半田山植物園)

About this spot

A municipal botanical garden spread across the slope of Mount Handayama in Hokaiin, Kita Ward, Okayama City. The grounds are undulating, and as you follow the walking paths uphill, a view opens partway up that takes in the city center of Okayama. The flowers in bloom change with the seasons, so every visit shows a different face. For children, simply making it to the top of the slope becomes an achievement, and it puts the morning's energy to good use. There are plenty of trees, so it is pleasant to walk even on days with strong sunshine.

Tips

Admission fees, opening hours and closed days can change, so check the Okayama City information before you go. The slopes are continuous, so a baby carrier moves more easily than a stroller, and sneakers are recommended for children who can walk. Prepare drinks in advance and take frequent breaks. Peak bloom varies by season, so checking the flowering information for the day before deciding where to go is efficient.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. The morning, before the sun grows strong, is the most comfortable
