The National Echigo Hillside Park Water Play Plaza is a water-play area officially announced to open, as the fiscal 2026 plan, from Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, September 13, from 9:30 to 16:45. It has 12 kinds of water play equipment, including a water machine gun, a human-powered waterwheel, a water tunnel, a water dome, water steps, and a water tree, and simply working your way around them keeps you playing for a long time. The water is a shallow 10 to 20 cm, so even small children can walk on their own feet between the features, which is reassuring. Shade tents are provided, so take frequent breaks if the children get chilly or the sun is strong. Only the water-contact pond has water-quality management equivalent to a swimming pool, and infants may enter it if they are wearing swim diapers. Use is free, but a separate park admission fee is required.

Tips

The fountains and other features stop at 16:30, so use that as your cue for when to finish playing. Infants may enter only the water-contact pond, and swim diapers are required. Since you will be walking with wet feet, sandals or water shoes that will not slip off are safer. There are days when opening is called off due to weather or temperature, so checking the park's official website for that day's status before you set out is the sure approach. Prepare a change of clothes and a towel for each person, with some to spare.

Get in at 13:50 and you can play for a full 2 hours 40 minutes, until the fountains stop at 16:30
