About this spot

The Shimo 4-chome Children's Park Water Play Area is a free water play spot that Kita Ward opens only during the summer. For the 2026 season, it is open from Tuesday, July 21 to Monday, August 31, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. While many of Kita Ward's water play areas have closure days for cleaning, this one has none, which is a big advantage since you can plan a visit on any day during summer vacation. It is located in a quiet children's park in a residential area, about a 10-minute walk from Shimo Station on the Tokyo Metro Namboku Line. The water is shallow, so even toddlers who have just learned to walk can stand and play on their own feet. After seeing the great flow of the Arakawa River in the morning, the shallow water underfoot should feel even more familiar.

Tips

The facility may close suddenly depending on weather or water quality conditions, so be sure to check Kita Ward's official website for the day's operating status before you set out. Children who are not yet toilet-trained should wear swim diapers. Since this is a children's park in a residential area, it helps to remind children to be mindful of the neighbors and not to be too loud. Shade is limited, so a picnic sheet and a sunshade will make breaks more comfortable. Don't forget a plastic bag for wet clothes, either.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours. It's especially pleasant after 2 PM, once the sunlight softens.
