About this spot

The Sazanami Children's Park Fountain, a 7-minute walk from the East Exit of JR Utsunomiya Station, is a free water play spot you can casually enjoy right in the middle of town. In the 2026 season, it operates from July 18 (Sat) through August 30 (Sun), from 10:00 to 16:00. The grounds have restrooms and a pergola, so being able to change clothes and rest in the shade on the spot is a big advantage for a park this close to the station. Being within walking distance of the station also means you can come play in the water by train alone, without a car — a feature unique to this park. Admission is free, so it also works to stop by for just an hour after shopping or a meal.

Tips

It is scheduled to close for regular cleaning from August 6 to August 7 and from August 24 to August 25. No water will flow during these periods, so plan your visit for another time. Bare feet are not allowed in the water, so bring water shoes or sandals that won't easily come off. In this in-town park, shade is limited to around the pergola, so take frequent breaks and drink water. Closures can also happen suddenly due to weather, so check the City of Utsunomiya's information page for the day's status before you set out.

About 2 hours. The afternoon, when the sunlight softens, is recommended, and you can play until closing at 16:00
