Flow of the course

About this spot

Located just a short walk from JR Space World Station in the Higashida district of Yawata East Ward, Kitakyushu, this is one of western Japan's largest natural history and heritage museums. The soaring exhibition space, the Earth Mall, showcases complete dinosaur skeletons lined up in impressive display that makes you look up in awe. The Envirама Hall, featuring moving, full-size dinosaurs that bring the Cretaceous period back to life, is a huge hit with children. The museum's structure allows you to trace everything under one roof—from the story of the evolution of life to the history of Kitakyushu, which developed alongside steel manufacturing—and before you know it, you'll lose track of time absorbed in exploration. It's the front-row seat to bathe in the grand narrative of life and the earth at the start of your journey.

Tips

Weekends and holidays tend to get crowded shortly after opening, so arriving at the opening time is recommended. Since the museum is very large, prioritizing the dinosaur Earth Mall and Envirама Hall ensures high satisfaction even with limited time. The Envirама Hall has set performance times, so check these at the entrance.

Best time to visit

Plan for approximately 2 hours. It's recommended to enter right after opening to avoid crowds, then tour the dinosaurs in the Earth Mall first.
