Futatsu-jima Island (二ツ島) consists of two rocky islets visible offshore from the coast of Isohara, in Kitaibaraki City. The sight of these small pine-covered islands floating on the Pacific horizon is a scene representative of Kitaibaraki, and the area is also known as the childhood home of the children's-song poet Ujo Noguchi. The morning coastline has a pleasant breeze, and just walking along the water's edge is enough to delight children. Taking in the breadth of the sea before heading to the pool helps you grasp the shape of summer in this area. Sand and sea breeze can leave your body feeling a bit sticky, so it's comfortable to be prepared to change clothes later in the itinerary.
Tips
There is parking available along the coastline. The beach is not maintained for swimming, so keep any time in the water to ankle-depth, and stay away when the waves are high. There is little shade, so a hat and drinks are essential. Allow about 50 minutes for a stroll here.
Best time to visit
About 50 minutes. The earlier in the morning, the softer the light and the cooler it is to walk.
