About this spot

This venerable temple was founded in 1615 as the family temple of the So clan, who ruled Tsushima. The grounds have 132 stone steps flanked by towering, centuries-old cedar trees, creating a solemn atmosphere. At the top of the steps lie the graves of successive generations of the domain's lords, a place where you can feel the weight of Tsushima's history. Even under the summer sun, the approach surrounded by cedar groves is wrapped in cool air.

Tips

About 10 minutes on foot from the Tsushima Museum. Since the stone steps continue for a long stretch, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Families with small children should climb at a comfortable pace.
