About this spot
A famous autumn foliage spot in the mountains of Oku-Yugawara, created by planting about 540 Japanese maple trees. Because it colors later than the surrounding region, the best viewing period typically continues for a long stretch from mid-November through early December. Located along the Ikemine Hiking Course, it offers an experience of being wrapped in vivid red maples amid mountain quiet, quite different from foliage spots in town.
Season & hours
Name: 池峯 もみじの郷
Date & time: Typically mid-November–early December(周辺地域より遅く色づくため長く楽しめる)
Venue: 湯河原町宮上・池峯 もみじの郷(奥湯河原)
Tips
There is no parking lot (per official Yugawara Onsen information). From JR Yugawara Station, take the bus toward Oku-Yugawara for about 15 minutes and get off at Oku-Yugawara Iriguchi, then walk about 40 minutes along the mountain trail. Since the itinerary assumes hiking, plan according to your gear and stamina if traveling with young children. As the sun sets early in this season, begin your descent by around 3 p.m.
Best time to visit
Early afternoon (to allow time to descend before sunset)
