Flow of the course
About this spot
An ancient shrine in Matsuda Town, counted among the thirteen shrines of Sagami Province listed in the mid-Heian-era Engishiki records. The grounds include a tree selected as one of the 100 Notable Trees of Kanagawa, which has long watched over the town from the banks of the Sakawa River. Admission is free, and the quiet grounds make a fitting start to the day's outing.
Tips
It's within walking distance of Shin-Matsuda Station. The shrine's annual grand festival is also known for a rare ritual in which the portable shrine is carried into the Sakawa River.
Best time to visit
