About this spot

A winter illumination event held at Nishihirabatake Park, spread across the slope of Mt. Matsuda. It is typically held from late November to December 31 each year; last year it ran from November 29 to December 31, 2025, with lights on every night from December 23 onward. The biggest draw is being able to enjoy both the illuminations and the night view of the Ashigara Plain at once, a view only possible from a hilltop park. Based on last year's rates, admission was 500 yen for ages 18 and up, 100 yen for ages 12 to under 18, and free for children under 12 and town residents. Parking is available. The 2026-27 schedule and lighting hours have not been announced yet, so please check Matsuda Town's official website for the latest information.

Tips

In some years the lighting dates are mainly on weekends, so checking the schedule is a must. It feels colder up on the mountain than on flat ground, so bring an extra layer. Watch your footing on the slope on the way back down.

Best time to visit

Early evening after sunset. The time when the sky still has a blue tint shows off both the night view and the lights beautifully
