About this spot

This prefectural museum carries on the name of Kanazawa-bunko, the samurai-family library founded in the Kamakura period by Hojo Sanetoki. It preserves and passes down the books and cultural properties handed down at Shomyoji Temple, and its exhibition rooms let visitors experience the world of medieval books. Opening hours are 9:00-16:30 (last admission 30 minutes before closing). Admission to the special exhibition is 250 yen for adults, 150 yen for those under 20 and students, 100 yen for those 65 and over, 100 yen for high school students, and free for junior high school students and younger (special exhibitions are priced separately); use of the reading room only is free. Spending the afternoon confirming, through the exhibits, that Shomyoji Temple visited in the morning and the library are part of one continuous story, is a fitting way to close out this library-themed course.
