熊野市木本町にある紀勢本線の駅で、熊野市の玄関口です。駅を出て海側へ少し歩くと七里御浜の浜辺に出られます。駅前には観光の案内があり、鬼ヶ城や花の窟神社など市内の見どころへの起点になります。周囲は山が海際まで迫る地形で、駅からでも紀伊半島南部らしい険しい山並みが見えます。
