Shizuoka: Sunpu Castle and Toro Archaeological Site - Ieyasu Historical Walking Tour
A history-packed course that visits a castle, shrine, museum, and Yayoi archaeological site in one day in Sunpu, where Tokugawa Ieyasu spent his final years. Beginning with the turrets and statue of Ieyasu at Sunpu Castle Park, you'll proceed to Sengen Shrine (静岡浅間神社), where Ieyasu came of age, and then the Shizuoka City Historical Museum, which traces Sunpu's history. In the afternoon, you'll visit the Toro Archaeological Site (登呂遺跡), familiar from textbooks, to see pit dwellings and raised-floor storehouses, and finish at the interactive science museum near the station. A perfect family outing that balances learning and play, where you can touch 'the real thing' alongside history-loving elementary schoolers.
