Miyazaki: Aoshima Shrine, Horikiri Pass & Oni-no-Sentakuita Seaside Stroll
This seaside stroll course explores Aoshima and Horikiri Pass, the representative scenic spots of the Hyuga Coast south of Miyazaki City. In the morning, visit Aoshima, surrounded by the wave-carved 'Oni-no-Sentakuita' (the Demon's Washboard). Cross the Yayoi Bridge and pay your respects at Aoshima Shrine, a shrine dedicated to matchmaking and good marriages, then enjoy subtropical flowers and greenery at the free-entry Miyako Botanic Garden Aoshima. For lunch, try Miyazaki's famous Tori Nanban at Aoshimaya on the approach path, and enjoy mango soft serve for dessert. In the afternoon, drive south along the Hyuga Phoenix Road, where you'll encounter the spectacular views of Horikiri Pass, overlooking the Pacific Ocean beyond the phoenix tree-lined avenue. End your day at the observation deck of Michi-no-Eki Phoenix with a signature soft ice cream in hand, taking a well-deserved rest. Spend a perfect Miyazaki day surrounded by azure seas and subtropical greenery.
