Kunigami: Daisekirinzan and Hedo Cape - A Journey Through the Great Nature of Yanbarua's Northern Frontier
A great nature driving course following the Yanbarua route through Kunigami Village, the northernmost point of the main island of Okinawa. In the morning, depart from Michi no Eki Yuiyui Kunigami (Yuiyui Kunigami Rest Area) with freshly fried sata andagi in hand. At Daisekirinzan (Great Stone Forest Mountain), where 200-million-year-old limestone stands prominently, enjoy a mini-trekking adventure through subtropical forests and bizarre rock formations, then head to Hedo Cape, the northernmost point of the main island. The spectacular view of waves crashing against the cliffs and the panorama where the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea become one is breathtaking. From Kabiuchii Banta, a cliff approximately 80 meters high, gaze down at the emerald-green sea, then conclude by heading to the east coast and visiting Kesakashii Bay's Mangrove Forest. Along the walking path winding through mangroves designated as a national natural monument, encounter crabs, mudskippers, and other tidal flat creatures. This is a course where you can fully savor the powerful nature of Yanbarua, home to a UNESCO World Natural Heritage forest, all in a single day.
