2026 Tsuchiura National Fireworks Competition: A Full-Day Course
This course is built around the Tsuchiura National Fireworks Competition (土浦全国花火競技大会) held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, letting you enjoy the whole of Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture, from midday onward. Counted as one of Japan's three great fireworks competitions, this is a full-fledged contest where fireworks makers selected from across the country compete in skill, with about 20,000 fireworks lighting up the night sky. During the day, stroll through the shopping street in front of Tsuchiura Station and Kijo Park (亀城公園), the site of the former Tsuchiura Castle (土浦城), enjoying views toward Lake Kasumigaura (霞ヶ浦) along with a historic atmosphere. In the afternoon, walk along the shore of Lake Kasumigaura and take in the vast lake view. In the evening, fill up on food near the venue early before heading to the viewing spot along the Sakura River (桜川) to wait for the fireworks makers' competition to begin. November nights get cold, so bundle up well and fully savor this once-a-year contest of skill.
