2026 Sounkyo Onsen Gorge Fire Festival Summer Fireworks: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on the Sounkyo Onsen Gorge Fire Festival Summer Fireworks, held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Sounkyo (層雲峡), the gateway to Daisetsuzan National Park in Kamikawa Town. At midday, take in the powerful twin waterfalls of Ginga Falls and Ryusei Falls (銀河の滝・流星の滝), then ride the Sounkyo Ropeway (層雲峡ロープウェイ) up to the midpoint of Mt. Kurodake for a panoramic view of the majestic mountain ranges. At Oobako (大函), enjoy the gorge scenery created by cliffs of columnar joints. In the evening, enjoy dinner in the Sounkyo Onsen hot spring town while securing a spot for the fireworks. From 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., fireworks launch into the night sky over the gorge. The way the fireworks' sound echoes off the sheer rock walls has an intensity unique to the gorge. Fireworks continue to launch every night after this main festival through August 15, making it a summer plan that lets you fully enjoy the nature of Mt. Daisetsuzan along with the fireworks.
