2026 Kashima Odori: A Full-Day Course
The Kashima Odori is held around Sky Road (スカイロード) in the center of Kashima City, Saga Prefecture. In 2026 it runs for two days, August 7 (Friday) and 8 (Saturday), starting at 7:00 p.m., an annual event in which local dance groups fill the streets to bring Kashima's summer to a close. This course focuses on the first day, August 7, taking you through Kashima's history and food culture before joining the bon dance. Start by visiting Yutoku Inari Shrine (祐徳稲荷神社), one of Japan's three great Inari shrines, then step into the adjacent Yutoku Museum (祐徳博物館) to learn about its history. Stroll through Hizenhama-shuku (肥前浜宿), where a townscape of sake breweries still remains, and enjoy the bounty of the Ariake Sea at Michi-no-Eki Kashima (道の駅鹿島) before the main event, the Kashima Odori around Sky Road, begins at 7:00 p.m. This course lets you experience Kashima's faith, streetscapes, and Ariake Sea cuisine all in a single day.
