2026 Furusato Omachi Summer Festival: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on the Furusato Omachi Summer Festival (ふるさと大町納涼まつり), held at the Omachi Town Athletic Ground in Omachi Town, Kishima District, Saga Prefecture (2026: August 13, Thursday, 6:00-9:00 p.m., gates open at 5:00 p.m.). In the daytime, admire the famous Romon gate of Takeo Onsen (武雄温泉), designed by Tatsuno Kingo, in the neighboring town of Takeo City, then take in the quiet forest air at Takeo Shrine (武雄神社), home to a great camphor tree said to be 3,000 years old. In the afternoon, venture out to the ancient Inasa Shrine (稲佐神社) in Shiroishi Town to cool off along its mountain approach. In the evening, head back to the area around Hizen-Omachi Station (肥前大町駅) for an early dinner while soaking in the local atmosphere ahead of the festival. At 6:00 p.m., lanterns light up the Omachi Town Athletic Ground, and the bon dance circle and night stalls bring the town's liveliest night of the year. It is a day when families can slowly savor the warm, homey energy unique to a small town, ending with cool evening breezes and lasting summer memories.
