2026 Juhachiya: A Full-Day Course

This full-day course centers on Juhachiya (十八夜), a traditional event held at Ryusenji Temple (龍泉寺) in Arita Town, Nishimatsuura District, Saga Prefecture (2026: August 18, Tuesday, 7:00-9:00 p.m.). During the day, marvel at the porcelain torii gate and huge water jar at Tozan Shrine (陶山神社), a landmark of Arita, the birthplace of Japanese porcelain, then stroll through the townscape of Arita Uchiyama (有田内山), lined with alleys of tonbai-bei walls. After enjoying the photogenic scenery at Arita Porcelain Park (有田ポーセリンパーク), reminiscent of a European palace, have an early dinner near Arita Station (有田駅) to prepare for the evening. At 7:00 p.m., lights come on at Ryusenji Temple, filling the quiet mountainside night with the atmosphere of an event long passed down in the community.
