2026 Atago Fire Festival: A Full-Day Course
This full-day course centers on the 'Atago Fire Festival' (held Sunday, August 23, 2026), staged on the grounds of Ifukube Shrine in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. During the day, meet the Oriental white stork—a Special Natural Monument—soaring through the sky at the Hyogo Prefectural Homeland for the Oriental White Stork Park. Next, stroll through the castle town of Izushi, known as 'the little Kyoto of Tajima', taking in its nostalgic streets while gazing at the Shinkoro Bell Tower. After experiencing the local craft industry at Takumi Kogei, a workshop for kiryu wickerwork, have an early dinner near JR Toyooka Station to prepare for the evening. At 17:00, the grounds of Ifukube Shrine take center stage, as fire festival lights passed down through generations in this region color the night sky. A perfect day for families to enjoy nature alongside soaring storks, the history of a castle town, and a traditional festival, all in one.
